Site Building for transcribed text

Hi.

I have around 100k names which I have transcribed over years and would like to make them available to the public. These are names from the British colonial era, of men and women who lived and worked overseas. They include birth, death, marriage, travel, cemetery inscriptions and lots of other particulars - along with images - cemetery graves.

All this information is on datasets in csv format. I don’t want to add each name in manually. Is there a way to upload the various datasets and display the output in an orderly fashion?

I need help trying to figure out the best way to upload the datasets and present them in Omeka S.
I would think I need a Landing page with a robust search form, a Results page and a Detail page.

Any help from the forum would be so appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

If each name = one ressource, you can use CSVImport.

First, it would be better if you prepare :

  • ressource templates
  • collections

For manage reasearch, you can use (other search plugins are available depending on compatibility with your already installed plugins) Solr and Search.
Their last of Search add a page block to display a glossary containing terms from a facet field. So you will also can expose the list of names, locations or other property’s values in an index within a page.

Thank you for taking time to respond. After I posted, I decided to go ahead and dig a little deeper - to familiarize myself with Omeka, and started working on exactly what you mentioned. I made the resource template and now I am working on the collections. The learning curve is steep - but I will get the hang of it eventually :crossed_fingers:
