Search oddness, Omeka 3.2.3

Nothing’s coming back for me on the forums here that covers my issue, but please do point me at it if it exists.

The issue is that in the default search (not Advanced Search), Items are not being returned. I’ve got an Item that is a person’s metadata, with William in the dc:title field. But when I search William in the default search box, only the pages that mention this person come back. When I toggle the “Search Type” setting in the Site Settings to be All Sites, the Item with that as the dc:title comes back. This suggests to me that the Item is not assigned to the site, but when I look at the resources attached to the site (Site admin → Resources → click on the number), it’s there. The “Search Resources” setting has Site Pages, Items, and Item Sets selected.

Search result page = index/search?fulltext_search=william (lacks the pertinent Item)
Advanced search results page = item?property[0][joiner]=and&property[0][property]=1&property[0][type]=in&property[0][text]=William&submit=Search (lacks the pertinent Item)

(Apologies if this is a little muddled. I’m trying to condense it for forum readability.)

If it’s not coming up on either the fulltext or the advanced pages I would lean toward it not being in the site, though I know you said you checked that.

Maybe you have “Restrict browse to attached items” turned on in that site’s settings? When turned on, that setting makes items only appear in the browse if they’re being used in a block on a page.

I was misunderstanding that Restrict Browse setting and had it on, thinking it would (properly) not return Items that were not yet included in the Resources query.
Deselecting that box means I now get what I want.

Wouldn’t have even thought to consider that one.

There’s no toggle explanation of that in 3.2.3. Has one been added?

We want to just take it out frankly, it’s basically a relic of the prior era of how site attachment worked. But we need to wait for an appropriately major release out of compatibility concerns.

We have an issue open for renaming/moving/marking it somehow that for most people you don’t want it on.

A good opportunity for me to review sites other than the one I’m directly experiencing this with. Thanks for the info!
