Plugin to filter text in a field

I am interested in building a plugin where I filter the text to be displayed. The field is DC:Description. I’d like the plugin to dynamically filter out certain types of links and also offer alternate links dynamically generated that point to versions of the pages linked to, specifically alternate links within the Wayback Machine. I’m curious as to how, strategy wise, this might be approached.

That would be a plugin that uses Element Display Filter. That will let you make the changes to the text you describe.
