Omeka S Universal Viewer

I have probably the dumbest question on here.

I successfully installed the Universal Viewer (Installed Common first and then Archive Repertory). However, I cannot seem to to figure out how to actually have Omeka S use the viewer either when viewing something at the item level or on a page. I have been searching online and in the Omeka S manual without any luck. Thanks for anyone willing to help.

Best,
Nicole

I figured this out and it should not have been so hard. In order for Universal Viewer to work you also have to install the IIIF Server, Image Server, and Common. Additionally Repertory if you want 3D images (which I still can’t get to work). Once all of this is in there you’re standard images will show up in the viewer. Why this is not in one doc somewhere is beyond me. Omeka documentation really needs to improve for dependencies.

Note that Universal Viewer is not an official Omeka module but written by a (very prolific) third party developer. The documentation does mention Image Server and IIIF Server: Omeka S - Universal Viewer. Besides, they are not essential: if you already have material on a IIIF server elsewhere you can display it within Omeka using the Universal Viewer module without having to install the others. I agree the documentation could be improved: I had a little trouble working out how to attach IIIF displays to items. When I am back at work I will try to remind myself what issues tripped me up.

Thanks for your insights. I do finally have it working. With so many moving parts (different modules) I was just surprised no one had put this together as a how to more clearly, in a video or LibGuide or something. I finally got there, just took much longer than I had hoped. Thankfully another respondent had the last piece and was incredibly helpful, so 3D is working now too.
