Is it possible to use omeka to manage the catalog of a small library? I’m confused…
I tried to install Koha but it’s very difficult and I think that Omeka is a good alternative…
It is definitely possible to manage a library catalogue with Omeka, but it might not be ideal. The metadata structure for the software, which includes Dublin Core and BIBO with a basic install, will certainly allow you to describe the individual volumes. But there is not an element set to create MARC records built in. Nonetheless, the availability of modules such as Custom Vocab and ValueSuggest would allow you to create very basic descriptions that leverage controlled vocabularies.
Instead of Omeka, one very simple possibility that would allow you to describe and share your library’s holdings would be to set up a Zotero account and sync your collection to their server for public viewing.
