Making audio files downloadable

We have numerous audio files on my institution’s Omeka instance. Many of our patrons like to listen to these audio files on their phones or tablets. Oftentimes we are asked if it is possible to download these files so that they can listen to them without being online. The media player I’ve used on our page does not have a download option right in the player, and you can not right-click and download the file like you can with pdfs or jpegs (example - http://digitalarchives.sjc.edu/items/show/3719). So what I’ve done is send them a link to the file directly, where that player has a download option. (example - http://digitalarchives.sjc.edu/files/original/6ed6784c38cfc86ce1e89e1f96920417.mp3).

So my question is, is there a way to put this download button in the media player on the item level?

It looks like you’re using the HTML5 Media plugin.

I’ve thought the same thing before, that having the player makes downloading inaccessible (well, harder anyway). So I just now released a new version of HTML5 Media, version 2.7, that adds a “Show Download Link” option, which adds a “Download File” link underneath each video or audio player.

As usual, you can download the new version from its omeka.org Classic Plugins page.

Thank you for the update! I just did the update, and this is exactly what I was looking for. This will make our patrons very happy.
