Is the email notification plug-in optional if some exhibit creators do not want it?

Is the plug-in Email Notification plug-in optional? Some of our patrons may want to be notified of new items added to their collections/exhibit but others do not. If I activate this plug-in for the whole site, can the patron simply op-out of this feature?

I’m afraid the plugin does not offer the chance for users to opt out from receiving alerts: once installed and active, every owner gets notified. You can still customize the plugin, deciding which categories and which actions should be notified, though.
