Importing media with CVS Import

Hi all,
I’m trying to figure out how to import media attached to a CVS file with a couple thousand metadata sets. The only way I can currently do so is if I upload media files to the internet in order to generate a URL and attach it to each set of metadata in the CVS. Is there a way to bulk import images from my computer directly into Omeka while linking them to the metadata? I do have File Sideload, but from my understanding, it is only helpful once I have already uploaded files into the directory on Omeka.

I’m very new to this, but any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

File Sideload does require you to put the files on the server in the sideload directory, but you can just upload them in one big batch with an FTP client or some other similar method.

If I do this, won’t I still have to map each image to each row of metadata in the spreadsheet using some kind of link from Omeka? Or, when I’ve uploaded the spreadsheet to Omeka, I’ll have to go through each item to attach the sideloaded images?

Where you’d have the URL to each file in your CSV in your other model you mentioned in your first post, where you have to have the files available on the internet, if you use File Sideload that column would just have the filename within the sideload folder for each file (and you’d pick “Sideload” under Media Source when mapping in CSV Import for that column).

When importing, those files will get grabbed from the sideload folder and loaded into Omeka and attached to each created item for each row.
