Exhibit Builder: Unexpected Display from Multi-File Items

Problem: Exhibit pages built from multi-file items properly display the selected file thumbnails, but when activated, the thumbnails open a page displaying not only the selected file but always the first file in the item, followed by the selected file.

Context: Exhibit Pages which, in Content Blocks, select different files from the same multi-file item. (The Exhibit Builder man page says: “If you have more than one file uploaded for an item, you will be able to select which you want to use by clicking on it.”) The Content Block file selector confirms that individual files were selected from the selected item using the File tool. All files are PDF/A.

Behavior: each Exhibit Page properly displays the thumbnail and metadata for the corresponding file from the multi-file item. However, when that thumbnail is clicked, its page displays, always, the first file in the item followed by the selected file.

The first file should not be displayed at all for each of the Exhibit Pages after the first. This is unexpected behavior.

How do I get the thumbnail on the Exhibit Page to display, when activated, the selected file and only the selected file?

  • Exhibit Builder 3.9 on Classic 3.2
  • Theme: Berlin; have selected “Link to File Metadata” on Settings.

Those links are going to the item page, the same item page you’d get by going to it from anywhere else. So all the files are going to be shown.

Exhibit Builder doesn’t really expose options of where those links should go: to the item page, to the file page, or to the file directly. They just always go to the item. We could provide that kind of setting… I guess it would make the most sense on the block?

Yes please! That is exactly the functionality I’ve been looking for.
