Creating thumbnails for embedded files

I’m using Omeka and embedding files from another storage solution which works well, but it doesn’t generate thumbnails. ImageMagick is set up properly because if I upload a file, it will generate a thumbnail. However, I will only use embeds. Is there a way to create thumbnails from embedded content? For example I have embedded a PDF using HTML iframe, and I would like Omeka to generate a thumbnail based on that. Is that possible?

If it isn’t possible, is there a way to manually upload a thumbnail? I wouldn’t mind creating thumbnails myself, but I can’t find a way to upload a custom thumbnail.

Omeka Classic doesn’t have a custom thumbnail option, but Omeka S does. We have a similar feature for Classic in mind but it’s not implemented yet.

In Classic right now, you could consider just uploading the image you want to use as a thumbnail as a file to each item, which would have a similar effect, since the image would get thumbnailed and that would become the thumbnail for the item.
