I made a new starter theme for Omeka Classic that does a lot of the tricky/tedious stuff out of the box (image viewer, side menu, galleries, plugin templates, etc). If you are a developer thinking of writing a theme from scratch, feel free to check it out, make a fork, etc. It might save you some time or even just give you some ideas.
