A faculty emeriti member just reached out to me because his Omeka Classic site item pages no longer show the images. The theme is up to date, all plugins are up to date, it is running Omeka 3.2.1 and PHP 8.2.33. The media is visible in the item edit view and on the media page public view. The images are only not appearing on the public item view pages. Example.
I would be very grateful for any advice.
I inquired with our host and they responded with the following:
“At this point, I would recommend reviewing the site’s LightGallery implementation, including its JavaScript/CSS and how the theme is initializing the gallery. There may be a compatibility issue with the current version of Omeka, PHP, or the theme’s implementation of LightGallery.”
Any Big Picture theme developers that can help me out?
Have you modified the theme or core?
Where Big Picture would normally have the gallery markup, you have what looks like the standard “embed” markup, which I think could only happen in Big Picture by editing the theme.
Just to be sure, if there aren’t intended to be edits, it’s probably a good idea to start with a fresh copy of the theme to make sure.
When I was notified the item pages no longer had images the first thing I did was update the theme with a new copy directly from the Omeka website without any customizations and that did not fix it. The host modified the show.php so an image would show up as a temp fix and provided the info above. I turned off every plugin one by one and that did not fix it either. So the homepage would at least look somewhat back to normal I uploaded a custom feature.php but that was after nothing else fixed anything so I figured it wouldn’t hurt.
OK, I thought this might be a temporary change. Can you go back to the original show.php? There are errors happening on the item show page, but I believe they’re related to that temporary change, so it’s hard to see what any original problem there might have been.
What version of Big Picture are you using? The stylesheet I can see looks like it’s from an older version of the theme than the current version of 1.7.
It looks to me like it’s just a matter of those older styles causing your issue, so updating/replacing the theme with a clean copy of the 1.7 version should resolve the problem.
I deleted the theme and reinstalled 1.7. I have not touched any of it and I am still having the same problem. See: Elena and Gabriel · Harry Roseman: A Chronicle
If you go to inspect and developer console you can see the image but not in a normal view.
I will need to customize this so the homepage is only the slideshow with no word overlay and no images below the intro text.
Thanks for your help.
Best,
Nicole
It looks okay to me now.
Because you replaced the files, and the problem was in a CSS file, make sure you hard refresh or clear cache before loading the page again.
Thank you so much. This was a true case of too many cooks in the kitchen, my apologies for wasting your time. I find your advice so helpful and I hate to waste it on something like this where I should have just gone back to the beginning fresh before reaching out.
