Are there plans for an Alt Text Generation Module, possibly using AI? We, as I’m sure other, have thousands of images that require alt text. Our institution is supportive of a bulk fix for existing items and manual generation going forward, which is what they are doing on campus WordPress sites. From what I can find, there is no tool like this, only the Alt Text field itself that is built into Omeka past v. 3(ish). Or, if anyone knows of a way to easily cycle through images or items so project employees can efficiently update alt text, that would be great.

Hi! Omeka doesn’t have a built-in module for automatically generating alt text using AI, but you can use plugins like “Batch Edit” or “Omeka Bulk Import” to update metadata in bulk. To automatically generate alt text, you can connect to external AI services, such as Google Vision or Microsoft Azure, and use scripts to integrate this data into Omeka. You can also create a custom interface for staff to simplify manual entry.
