Just upgraded to 2.5 and noticed left menu in admin panel slams into main page …

Haven’t seen that before. What browser are you using?
It’s also possible that clearing the cache and/or hard refresh might clear out old CSS styling, which could be the culprit.

Yup, my bad 
it was browser cache … I stopped Firefox process, rebooted, and re-lit Firefox and everything is in order.
