We have 2.1.1 and we were holding off on going up till 3 for another couple of months. I am not sure if it is worth upgrading to 2.1.2 in the meantime and if that will cause any issues with our current set up. Or i can follow your fix here https://forum.omeka.org/t/no-video-thumbnail-generated/10883/2 in the meantime.
You could certainly try out that change.
