That looks like a very small section of an error log (consisting of only one second of messages). Are you sure you have the entire log?

Thanks for the logs. Unfortunately I still don’t see anything that could result in a 500 Server Error. Next time this happens open you’re browser’s debugger again and see if there’s more info about the error. Try clicking on the error which may open more info. Screen capture the error and post it here.
Sorry this is so frustrating. These kinds of errors are difficult to debug.

Just got an email from another transcriber as I was writing the above. She says she sees:

I suppose that doesn’t get us anywhere we haven’t already been?
We still don’t know why the server is sending the 500 error. Errors like this always get logged to the PHP error log, so it’s very unusual that we’re not seeing it. Your server administrator may have access to a more complete error log.
I see that access is restricted to your domain, which may have something to do with the unpredictable responses you’re getting, though I’d expect a 403 error and not a 500.

Thanks for signing me up as a transcriber - I went in to transcribe a document (id 169) and when I first tried, I also got a 500 error. However, Firebug also showed me the following error coming from Omeka/MediaWiki: “You must confirm your email address before you can edit.”
Once I went to http://judygiesberg.com/wiki/Main_Page, preferences, and confirmed my email, I was able to edit and save my transcription.

I’ve been helping jgiesber with this issue. 500 Internal server errors are tricky as you get no information and can’t test client side, but fortunately I could access the php code through the cpanel.
Check all the error logs (you can see them above). Nothing. So I turned on error displays. Nothing. At my wits end. Decide to open the files at random to poke around, not even sure why I’m doing it. In the controller for Scripto when I notice everything is in a giant Try block. Get to the bottom to the catch and I see…

Yup, just dumping every single error to 500, no logging for us!
So, dumped out $e to the console. Here’s the actual error that’s being thrown:
exception ‘Scripto_Service_Exception’ with message ‘You must confirm your email address before you can edit’ in /home/judygies/public_html/omeka/plugins/Scripto/libraries/Scripto/Service/MediaWiki.php:667
Looks like users just need to verify their email in MediaWiki for it to work. Tested on myself and all is now well (at least for me). Checking in with the other transcribers now but I’m confident this will solve the issue.
So, assuming we’re throwing all errors as 500s due to security, we should at least add a line to the error_logs with the info contained in $e.
I’ll add a trouble ticket to the Scripto github suggesting the above shortly…

Thank you @duspal for your diligence here. This is the first time I’ve seen this error. I suspect that most of our users aren’t requiring an email confirmation or perhaps MediaWiki recently changed their defaults.
At any rate, @jgiesber, for the time being can you tell your transcribers to confirm their MediaWiki email in the MediaWIki “Preferences” page, under “User profile”? This should do the trick.
I’ve pushed a fix for this that will be available in the next release, but there’s no need to wait if everyone confirms their email.
Thanks Jim, Megan, and Dave. We sent an email to folks to confirm their email account through MediaWiki. Fingers crossed that this is the fix.
