MySQL - mariadb question

Good morning,

I am attempting to install Omeka S on a RedHat 7 server. Our repository does not have MySql 5.5.3 or newer in it. However mariadb 5.5.56 is available to me. I know I can just download and install the later MySQL but I would not be able to patch using YUM and that’s not something I look forward to maintaining without YUM.

Has anyone else used mariadb in place of MySQL?

Thanks,

Rick

You can safely use MariaDB database. I had a number of Omeka Classic installations with this database and no problems from this side.
Currently I’m using 10.0.29-MariaDB (compatible to MySQL 5.6) for both Omeka’s (Classic and S rc1) and everything works perfectly.
