Multiple libraries with centralised database of books

We are currently looking at setting up a project whereby volunteers manage a series of small libraries throughout the Netherlands using Omeka S sub-sites. Hopefully they will be able to present their own collections to their users, but also make use of a centralised database of items (we suspect many libraries will largely contain the same titles).

  1. Is it possible to add a single item to multiple item pools for use in different sites? How is this done?
  2. Is it possible to make a front-end search form that shows results across sub-sites?

Perhaps these are silly questions, or perhaps Omeka isn’t the way to go for this specific project. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

As long as an item meets the criteria set forth in the site’s item pool it will be included in the site. Some people use Item Sets to organize site material; an item can be in multiple item sets.

Your second question has been raised before - at present there is not a built-in way to do this.

That search feature is on our long-term roadmap, but we’re not quite in a position to offer an ETA for its release.
