I wonder is there any way to not have items display on the recently added part of the homepage or to choose which items appear. I thought that not having the item public or featured would mean they wouldn’t appear in the recently added list but it seems not. I am using the Seasons theme. Sorry if I am missing something really obvious.

It may be that you’re looking at “recently added” while being logged in. When you are logged in you can see all items, even those that are private. Log out, refresh, and see if that helps.
