Building a custom form for Search/Solr

Hi,

We’re currently using Search (v 0.9.0) and Solr (0.9.2) on a site migrated from Omeka Classic. We’ve successfully set up the index, have the facets working, and are getting the results we want. The Search module mentions creation of custom forms, but we’re uncertain of how that’s done. Would this require a custom module or can it be done elsewhere? Essentially, we’d like a Google-esque single search box; the default box with two spots for queries and a number of dropdowns is more than we need.

When we create a search form, is there a way to set it as the site’s default form so it appears in the theme menu bar instead of the generic search form?
