Backwards compatibility and upgrade path complexity

Hello Omeka folks, I’m preparing a slide for ADE 2017 (Buffalo, NY) and I’m looking for some information on Omeka.

CMS Comparison Chart for Documentary Editions

I’m specifically looking for the 2 cells in red:

  1. Backwards compatibility between major releases
Does the new system maintain and recognize the prior system data?

  2. Upgrade path complexity
Does a new system version require a lot of technical work?

This obviously applies to self-hosted instances, not Omeka.net.

Thanks for any insights! And, happy to discuss the metrics and any other possible comparative factors which may be useful.
